Volunteer lifesavers have received a major boost to their vital role thanks to a dedicated community group.

Holy Island Responders has received the perfect start to a new era thanks to support from a local organisation.

Members of the team are all former Anglesey First Responders, trained in basic life saving skills, to carry out the recognition of cardiac conditions, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of a defibrillator until an ambulance arrives at the incident.

As they are all Holyhead based, the decision was taken to rename the team to pay tribute to the community in which they live and support with their volunteer role. They are now live and ready to help family and friends where they live.

The Holy Island Responders received a big boost to their new start, due to a generous donation from Holyhead and District Round Table.

Round Table members dug deep to donate £1186.80 to the team to help them purchase a brand new defibrillator.

Team Co-ordinator Robert Thomas said: "We are really grateful to the Round Table for this support, it will help us carry out our life saving role across the town. It's also given us a great start for our newly named team as well and we are all really looking forward to continuing our work in the community."

Mr Kevin Morris of the Holyhead Round Table said "Holyhead Round Table is pleased to purchase a defibrillator for Community First Responders in recognition of the excellent service provided to the local community"
